October 2007
Where does the time go? It seems like we just got here, but Wayne is in the final week of classes. It has been really exciting to learn how to plan a vernacular media program to communicate the Scriptures to oral learners. Wayne and three classmates are gaining practical experience working on a media project for the Blaan people of southern Philippines. We are working with Mary Rhea, a translator who started working with the Blaan in the late 1960's. She told us about revenge killings, a major family problem among the Blaan. We are putting together a plan using Bible storying, dramas, music, and cassettes to communicate God's peace and forgiveness to the Blaan. What a blessing it is to be here!
JAARS Day is a big event here in Waxhaw. There was a lot of publicity, and a lot of volunteers came from far away to help out with the logistics of the event. The event included an aviation "Air Show," rides (for a fee) in the airplanes and helicopter, demos by Vernacular Media Services, and other departments, and tours at the Alphabet Museum and the Mexico Cardenas Museum. There was a good turnout for the event. |
It was fun to see the aviation "Air Show." The Helio- Courier (right) can carry six passengers and take off or land on a runway of only 165 yards, and over a 50 foot obstacle! It is a very good plane to get missionaries to remote areas of the world. |
The helicopter below can carry passengers or cargo in a sling to remote areas. I met a Wycliffe pilot who flew missions in Indonesia for New Tribes Mission until their pilot could complete his training. It is good to hear about cooperation for the cause of missions. |

Linda's mother passed away on October 6. She was 83 years old, a Christian, and in hospice. We celebrated her life at the funeral in Jasper, GA. On the way there, we saw the Tate Mansion (above right). It is in Tate, GA, and the walls are made out of marble. It was quite a place to look at.
Please pray for the following requests:
Thank you for standing with us in prayer. We really appreciate it. If you have prayer requests, we would be happy to hear about them and pray with you. In Christ's love, Wayne & Linda Steele |
